Hooray for the weekend! Isn't the weekend the best two days of the week?! Who ever came up with the concept of a five day work week was just wrong in soo many ways. It should at least be Even Steven don't you think? It's not that I don't love my job, I do. It's just trying to cram all the fun things, plus the hafta's into the non-working hours is hard to do at times.

If you've been a follower for awhile then you know how much I love to take care of my family and our home. I just love being a homemaker, and I've said it before I should have been a woman in the 50's who didn't work and was able to concentrate on her family, and making her house a home. I was lucky when our sons were young and I was able to be home with them. We felt that this was soo important. We gave up many things so that I was able to do it, but it was the best thing for our family.

As the boys grew older and started school I worked part-time at our local Chamber of Commerce. That way I was able to be there to put them on the bus as well as be there when they got off the bus. The full time job just kinda happened and it allowed us to buy The Old Parsonage and let the boys be involved in several activities.
Me going to work full time was a big adjustment for the men. They were used to everything being made homemade. Well maybe, not everything, but I used to can and freeze veggies in the summer and all my baking was made from scratch. I do still can a few jams and pickles and I freeze sweet corn when it's in season, along with extra meals that make it easier for week day meals. I still make my own spaghetti sauce and bake everything from scratch I love to feed people and I want it to be the best that it can be. Flyboy says it's because I cook with LOVE.
Have any of you ever canned?

I cook a lot, I do love cooking but I use a lot of shortcuts like cake mixes. I worked full time when my kids were born and looked after my in laws too so I did my best to find ways to still cook with love but a little quicker, lol. ~Diane
I remember my mother canning tomatoes, in the awful heat/humidity of summer, before A/C. I never tried it, myself. :-)
Your love of homemaking comes through, bright and clear, in your blogging. You make a home, that anyone would be lucky to be able to visit in for a bit. :-)

You sound like Mrs. Cleaver all right! I think it's wonderful that you were very present and available to your children as they were growing up. I wish more families could /would make that choice. No, I have never canned on my own. I think the day that the pressure cooker blew up scarred me for life.
Your home is so lovingly put together!
I have always worked full time but I so do enjoy cooking and having family around. When the kids were little we always did crafts and game nights. Those times go by so fast!
I am really enjoying the book I won at your giveaway. Some stories are bringing me to tears. Thank you!
My grandmother was a farm woman and canning was part of the job. Mom didn't do much except for jam and pickles. I, alas, have lost the canning gene -- I had great expectations for tomatoes, but the crop wasn't too good...it's on the bucket list, so we'll see!
Are you doing something new with your photos? They are so nice. And No I don't think I've ever canned but I fully understand this post. There's nothing I like better than staying home and fixing up my house and cooking from scratch. I don't really have to menu plan too much ahead as I shop for basic ingredients and then go from there.
